Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on this part of the island of Montreal that is known as"the West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of the name mistakenly believe that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually it is the West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. It is often cited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel developed on Courtice located just outside Oshawa within Ontario. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. Then, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." After I outgrew the male dancers, I decided to quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted into acting. Her teacher from high school encouraged her to take the next step. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out as Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the role of the main character of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her BA in Fine Arts at York University. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have varied. The character of Rita from the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was only seen on a few occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
